The Elekahia Division of the Rivers State Police Command has said it could not take an 8-year-old female rape victim to the hospital because it lacked funds to do so.
The violated child was abandoned at a roadside close to the Elekahia Police Station after she was raped and abused.
She was rescued by a woman who was driving by and noticed her predicament.
Civil Rights Council, Rivers State described the action and the excuse of the police as insensitive.

The Council in a statement said it viewed the role played by the Police as highly insensitivity to the plight of a little girl who was left unconscious by yet to be identified male predator.
“Even if the Police lacked the funds to take her to hospital, the Police would have at least taken her to Police hospital in the state or better still contact gender-based groups or philanthropist worship centres.
“Civil Rights Council Rivers State calls on the Commissioner of Police CP Dandaura Mustapha to investigate the abandonment of the suspected rape victim at the roadside by Elekahia Police station in Port Harcourt and prosecute any officer(s) found culpable.
“We equally thank the good Samaritan Mrs Juan who brought the incident to the knowledge of the public. We commend her patriotism and urge Nigerians to emulate her action”.
