The Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to expand digital literacy and accelerate digital transformation across the Southwest region.
In a statement released by NITDA on Thursday, 11 June 2026, the partnership was described as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the digital ecosystem across the six Southwest states through coordinated efforts in skills development, innovation, and policy implementation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, said regional collaboration remains critical to unlocking Nigeria’s human capital potential and ensuring wider participation in the digital economy.
He said partnerships such as the one with the DAWN Commission are essential for building digital bridges that enable citizens to acquire relevant skills and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Inuwa added that the initiative would help strengthen local innovation hubs, promote digital skills development, and support the creation of a unified framework for digital growth across the region.
He also stressed the importance of aligning national policies with regional execution to ensure that digital transformation efforts reach communities at the grassroots level.
The Director-General of the DAWN Commission, Dr Seye Oyeleye, welcomed the partnership, describing it as a significant step toward advancing digital literacy and innovation in the Southwest.
He said the MoU would serve as a launchpad for coordinated efforts aimed at improving access to digital skills and expanding opportunities for young people across the region.
Oyeleye added that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that no part of the region is left behind in the ongoing global digital transition.
Both organisations said the partnership would support the development of a more inclusive, innovation-driven economy, focused on creating opportunities through technology and collaboration.
