The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said full support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition will bring more political appointments, infrastructure and national relevance to Rivers State.
Wike spoke on Monday October 19, 2026 at an interactive meeting with supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and youth leaders in Port Harcourt.
He urged party faithful and stakeholders to set aside past differences and rally behind the President.
“All I want to hear in this state is Tinubu and nothing but Tinubu. If we are one of the first three states that get the highest number of votes, we will get more of the appointments,” he said.
The minister noted that the current administration has already given Rivers indigenes several high-profile federal appointments.
He said a strong voter turnout would secure greater opportunities, especially for the youth, and pointed to projects such as the Bonny road as evidence of federal commitment.
Wike stressed that his goal is to keep Rivers central in national politics.
He said local political structures are uniting behind the President and that reconciliation committees are addressing remaining grievances.
Former Port Harcourt Mayor Ezebunwo Ichemati, speaking for the governor’s supporters, said the group is ready to work with Wike to deliver the state for Tinubu and other Rainbow Coalition candidates, including Kingsley Chinda for governor.
Ichemati described the earlier crisis as a family dispute that has been resolved and affirmed that Governor Fubara supports the peace process.
He pledged that grassroots youths will mobilise for the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
