A new Nollywood production, Dark Days in Ogu, has attracted more than 1,000 actors and aspiring performers to auditions held in Ogu Town and Port Harcourt, highlighting interest in film production opportunities in Rivers State.
The auditions, which ran from October 15 to 17, marked a key stage in the casting process as the production team prepares to select actors for the historical film.
The project is based on an epic historical story adapted from a book by Senator Abiye Sekibo. It is being produced by Hon. Boma Iyaye through Fifachiri Productions and Tana Whyte TV Productions, with actor Walter Anga also involved.
Veteran actor and filmmaker Ernest Obi is directing the movie. He had earlier invited actors to participate in the Port Harcourt auditions.
The casting exercise took place in both Ogu Town and Port Harcourt, with the Ogu session held at Alabo A.C. Iyaye, JP Memorial Hall. Organisers also provided free transportation for participants travelling from Air Force Junction to Ogu Town.
The turnout reflects the interest among emerging performers in opportunities to work on film productions within Rivers State. For local actors, projects of this nature can offer professional experience, industry connections and the chance to compete for roles in productions beyond Nigeria’s established entertainment centres.
The film also places Ogu in the spotlight as the setting associated with a major screen project. With its story rooted in a historical account, Dark Days in Ogu could bring a Rivers-related narrative to a wider audience, depending on how the story is adapted for the screen.
Organisers had indicated that the selected actors would be announced on the film’s social media page on October 19.
However, details of the final cast, filming schedule and release date were not confirmed in the report announcing the conclusion of the auditions.
