The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified the meaning of the “Not Admitted” and “Admission in Progress” statuses displayed on candidates’ Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), urging applicants not to panic while awaiting admission decisions.
In an explainer released on Thursday, September 17, the board said the “Not Admitted” status simply indicates that a candidate has not yet been offered admission.
JAMB stressed that the status does not necessarily mean the candidate will not be admitted, advising affected applicants to continue checking their CAPS profiles for updates.
The board explained that “Admission in Progress” indicates that an institution may have proposed a candidate for admission, but the process is yet to be completed.

Candidates whose profiles display the status were also advised to monitor their CAPS accounts as the admission process continues.
The clarification follows concerns among applicants over changes in their admission statuses, including reports of some candidates moving from “Admission in Progress” to “Not Admitted.”
JAMB has continued to issue public explanations to help candidates understand the various stages of the admission process while awaiting final decisions from their chosen institutions.
