The National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) has demanded clarity from the Federal Government on the ongoing Ogoni Dialogue, particularly the reported 40 employment opportunities for Ogoni youths, youth representation, and the timeline of the process.
In a statement signed by its President and JRC Leader, Comr. Barinuazor Emmanuel, NYCOP said Ogoni was at a critical stage and urged stakeholders to approach the dialogue with unity and responsibility.
The group recalled the May 12, 2024 peaceful march in Bori, which led to an invitation to the Presidential Villa and the subsequent development of the Ogoni Dialogue.
While welcoming the process, NYCOP questioned whether Ogoni youths were adequately represented and genuinely involved in decisions concerning their future.

It specifically demanded details on the 40 NNPCL jobs reportedly allocated to Ogoni youths, including their status, distribution and selection criteria.
NYCOP also called for transparency in negotiations over oil resumption and urged respect for the Ogoni people’s right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).
The youth body further demanded a clear timeline, warning that an open-ended dialogue could fuel distrust and create room for manipulation.
It urged Ogoni elders, traditional rulers, political leaders and youth groups to convene an Ogoni family meeting to resolve emerging disagreements and present a united position.
NYCOP also called on the Federal Government to provide a clear framework and terms of reference covering environmental remediation, economic justice, political inclusion, youth empowerment and resource management.
The organisation warned Ogoni youths against political manipulation ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that unity remained critical to securing lasting benefits for the people.
