The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports that he is lobbying to head the All Progressives Congress , APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.
Mr. Wike who made this known in a statement released on Monday August 10 by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka said he does not require a position in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign organisation to demonstrate his support for the President’s second-term ambition.
The former Rivers State governor dismissed the reports linking him to the position of Director-General of the campaign council, describing them as false and baseless.
Mr. Wike explained that he had neither discussed the leadership of the council nor sought membership of the body stressing that his main objective is to help Tinubu secure a convincing victory in both Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
“I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.
He maintained that his support for Tinubu remains unwavering and is not dependent on receiving any political appointment or campaign position.
Mr. Wike also said that he is currently outside the country on a break after spending over a month overseeing activities and projects in the FCT.
He said his schedule during the period included commissioning completed projects, flagging off new projects and inspecting ongoing developments across the capital.
The minister noted that he would return to the country and continue implementing the FCT mandate in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
Mr. Wike reiterated that his focus remains on supporting the President’s policies and helping the administration achieve a strong electoral performance in 2027.
He stressed that his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election goes beyond occupying a formal role in the campaign council.
“My support for President Tinubu is not tied to holding any position in the campaign council; My focus is to ensure that Mr President records a strong electoral victory in Rivers State and the FCT,” he added.
