In the renewed commitment towards improving the welfare, health and rehabilitation efforts of inmates in the Okaka Medium Security Custodial Centre, the Bayelsa State Government and the Nigeria Correctional Services have committed themselves to the continuous cooperation for the betterment of the inmates’ wellbeing and reintegration into society.
The renewed partnership came up following a visit on Thursday by the newly appointed Bayelsa State Controller of Corrections, BS Spiff to the office of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe in Yenagoa, where he extended a courtesy call on his new boss.
Prof. Brisibe congratulated Spiff on his appointment, saying he is the first Bayelsan to be posted to the position of Controller of Corrections in the correctional facility of the state.

The commissioner assured him of the continued cooperation of the state government towards the provision of quality healthcare service, timely interventions, education and other rehabilitation efforts of the inmates.
The commissioner went further to state that the Douye Diri senatorship administration is equally committed to providing adequate healthcare and development opportunities to inmates, adding that such initiatives are important for effective rehabilitation and integration of inmates back into the society.
Improving inmates’ welfare is seen by the government as an important aspect of creating a healthy, safe, and inclusive society where everyone is accounted for.
Prof. Brisibe, in company with the State Controller of Corrections, equally thanked the Director of Domestic Affairs to the Governor, Barr. John Sambo, and his foundation for helping in establishing NOUN study center at the correctional facility.
Others at the meeting include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jones Stow; the Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Williams Appah; the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ngowari Torunana; the Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Onome, and others.
