Security and Traffic Regulations at Rivers State University (RSU) have been tightened in view of the death of one of the institution’s female students due to a road accident.
The police, who are investigating the matter, have arrested two students in connection with the accident which has led to the unfortunate death of a female student, says Nigeria Info.
In a statement issued on behalf of the university signed by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi Daminabo, it emerged that the directive was a result of a meeting held by management concerning Tuesday’s road accident involving Miss Eno Udosen, a resident of the Rivers State University.

According to the directives, all the undergraduate students will not drive personal vehicles within the university’s premises from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. Students who will want to drive their vehicles into the university will be required to park them at the car park at the university’s main gate and use university shuttle services.
All postgraduate students and students of the Centre for Continuing Education will drive personal vehicles only after displaying the university’s identity cards.
Management issued a notice warning that any student caught driving dangerously would be suspended, while his/her car would be confiscated.
In addition to the above measures, the university has introduced a speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour on main roadways and 20 kilometers per hour in the residential area. The visiting hours of university hostels have been reduced to 6 p.m. in view of security concerns.
The university has reported that two students suspected to be responsible for the incident have been apprehended and handed over to the police.
