-Urges Youths to Embrace Peace
The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Akuro Tobin, has been honoured with the Outstanding Leadership Award by the Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The award, which recognises his exemplary administrative performance and inclusive governance style, was presented during a solidarity visit by the NYCN leadership to the Council Secretariat in Okrika.
Led by its state chairman, Chimenem Worlu, the youth delegation praised Tobin for restoring the confidence of young people in local governance.
Worlu highlighted the Chairman’s “Youth First” philosophy, a principle he previously championed as the Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development.
He commended Tobin’s targeted interventions, including small and medium enterprise (SME) grants, skills acquisition programs, and agricultural support schemes that have directly benefited Okrika youths.
Responding to the honour, Tobin expressed his gratitude to the apex youth body and pledged to sustain policies that drive youth growth and community development.
He used the platform to appeal to young people across Rivers State to champion peace and reject violence, warning against actions that could destabilise the political landscape. Leadership, he noted, demands sacrifice and carries heavy responsibilities.
Addressing a request raised by Worlu regarding office accommodation for the youth council, Tobin advised the organisation to maintain operations at its current location while his administration works out future arrangements.
He assured the NYCN of his continuous collaboration and administrative backing.
Earlier, Worlu had requested the council’s assistance with official recognition, logistics for youth programs, and a strengthened partnership on youth-centric initiatives, while pledging the NYCN’s unwavering loyalty and cooperation.
The presentation was witnessed by several key council officials, including the Head of Local Government Administration, Luke Urang; Council Treasurer, Darlington Nweke; Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Mosley Mosley; and the Special Assistant on Youth Affairs, Comrade Jonathan Gunn, among other dignitaries.
