The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) called on host communities in the Niger Delta to help protect oil pipelines after a recent attack on the Trans Niger Pipeline.
The appeal followed the assault by suspected armed individuals at Odau community in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State. NNPCL made the call at a monthly stakeholders meeting organised by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) in Port Harcourt.
Engr. Akponime Omojevwhe, NNPCL’s Head of Field Operations, Eastern Corridor, said the company and security agencies had not rested for two days since the incident.
He appealed to stakeholders, especially in Odau: “When you see people who are not from your community or notice large groups with suspicious movements, please report to the pipeline surveillance company in your zone immediately.”
Omojevwhe added that full community cooperation was needed for success. “We have achieved success before and we will continue to do so,” he said.
Dr. Akpors Mezeh, PINL’s General Manager for Community and Stakeholders Relations, described the June 15, 2026 attack as unfortunate.
He said the matter was reported to security agencies for swift action.
Mezeh warned that such attacks harm the environment and local livelihoods.
He urged community leaders, youths and security agencies to remain vigilant and work together.
Both organisations emphasised that pipeline protection is a collective responsibility vital for sustainable development.
