A Nigerian clergyman, Apostle Joshua Aghasedo, has sparked debate online after sharing his views on the use of adult toys within marriage.
In a video that surfaced on August 12, 2026, Aghasedo argued that adult toys should not automatically be regarded as sinful when used by married couples, describing them as tools that could serve a purpose within a marital relationship.
The cleric compared such devices to everyday technology, questioning whether items such as cars and phones could be considered sinful simply because they are tools designed to make life easier.
Aghasedo disclosed that although he had never personally used an adult toy, he had once recommended one to a married couple after considering their circumstances.
According to him, his recommendation was intended to help the couple maintain intimacy within their marriage and discourage either partner from seeking intimacy outside the relationship.
He said, “I have suggested a sex toy to a couple before. When I look at all the surrounding circumstances, so that somebody is not going out and all those things. I’m not joking. It is an equipment to help the process.”
However, Aghasedo stressed that his position applies strictly to married couples.
He maintained that using such devices outside marriage, particularly by an individual, would amount to what he described as “sin of the flesh” under his religious interpretation.
“Adult toys are only for married couples. We are talking within the framework of marriage, right? Not outside. Now, if you engage it on your own, it’s called ‘sin of the flesh’,” he stated.
His comments have since generated reactions online, with Nigerians debating whether the use of adult toys within marriage is consistent with conservative Christian teachings and whether religious leaders should endorse their use.
