Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has officially secured a major upgrade ahead of the 2026/27 La Liga campaign. Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have announced that the Nigerian international will wear the club’s iconic No. 11 shirt for the upcoming season.
The 28-year-old winger completed a high-profile move to the Civitas Metropolitano from Serie A side Atalanta in January. During his initial six-month adaptation period under manager Diego Simeone, Lookman wore the No. 22 jersey.

Now fully integrated into the squad, Lookman inherits the coveted No. 11 shirt following the departure of Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada, who recently finalized a return to South America with River Plate.
Wearing the No. 11 shirt brings a sense of familiar comfort for the Nigerian attacker. Lookman famously donned the same squad number during his historic spell at Atalanta, a period that saw him score an iconic UEFA Europa League final hat-trick and cement his status among Europe’s top wide forwards.
The jersey switch reflects Diego Simeone’s immense trust in Lookman’s tactical development. Wearing a core starting number signals that the Nigerian is viewed as a primary focal point for Atletico’s attacking transition alongside stars like Julián Alvarez.
