The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has successfully obtained a N3 billion TETFund grant aimed at establishing a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Cyber Sciences within the initial 100 days of the tenure of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye.
Ibileye, who took office on February 16 as the university’s fourth Vice-Chancellor, stated that this achievement signifies a more extensive phase of consolidation, reform, and institutional enhancement rather than mere celebration.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Lokoja, he mentioned that the grant would facilitate advanced research, postgraduate education, and the development of high-level skills for Kogi State and the broader region.
He further noted that the centre would establish the university as a center for innovation in emerging technologies, especially in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Ibileye also revealed that the institution received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for eight academic programs during the review period.
He indicated that additional funding sources included TETFund’s annual allocation, a N335 million NEEDS Assessment grant, and special interventions of N700 million and N400 million designated for laboratory and classroom enhancements.
He stated that the administration also secured a N300 million zonal TETFund grant for infrastructure development.
