The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed a security breach involving its official website, following a cyberattack that compromised the platform and raised fresh concerns over the vulnerability of government digital systems in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Friday, May 15, 2026, the agency disclosed that suspected hackers gained unauthorized access to its website, prompting immediate technical intervention to contain the breach and begin restoration efforts.
NEMA said its technical team is currently working to secure the system, investigate the source of the attack, and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
The agency also issued a strong warning to the public, urging Nigerians to disregard any suspicious messages, fake announcements, misleading updates, or financial requests that may originate from the compromised platform or circulate through related online channels.

Officials stressed that any communication requesting money or sensitive personal information should be treated as fraudulent until the website is fully restored and secured.
NEMA noted that the incident highlights the growing threat of cyberattacks against public institutions and critical digital infrastructure, especially as government services increasingly move online.
The agency assured Nigerians that it is taking urgent steps to strengthen its cybersecurity systems to prevent a recurrence and improve overall digital resilience.
It also expressed regret over the disruption caused by the breach, adding that updates will be provided as recovery efforts progress.
