Former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr. Robinson Ewor, has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara conceded to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during the period of emergency rule in the state but failed to disclose the outcome of the negotiations to his supporters.
Speaking during a national television programme on Thursday, Ewor claimed that the political crisis between Governor Fubara and Wike was effectively resolved during negotiations held following the declaration of emergency rule.
According to him, Governor Fubara agreed to hand over control of political appointments in the state to the FCT Minister as part of the settlement reached between both camps.
Ewor further alleged that the subsequent removal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Chief of Staff formed part of the terms of the agreement reached during the negotiations.
He accused the governor of failing to inform his supporters of the decisions taken, despite their continued backing throughout the political crisis.
“Governor Fubara conceded defeat during the emergency rule but did not return to tell his supporters the true position of events. Instead, he allowed many to believe the struggle was still ongoing,” Ewor said.
He maintained that supporters of the governor were left in the dark about the real issues behind the conflict, adding that many continued to defend the governor without knowing that an agreement had already been reached.
Ewor also disclosed that he publicly declared on January 1 that Governor Fubara had surrendered politically and urged his supporters to move on, including joining the ruling party.
According to him, recent public developments only confirmed what had already taken place during the emergency rule.
The former PDP acting chairman said Governor Fubara’s latest political position was not a new development but a confirmation of an agreement allegedly reached months earlier.
