The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has proposed a partnership with Seplat Energy Plc to build a new fire station in Finima Community to improve emergency response and safeguard lives and property on Bonny Island.
Pepple made the proposal on Monday while hosting a delegation from Seplat Energy, led by the company’s General Manager, Government Relations, Hadiza Garbati, during a courtesy visit to his residence.
He revealed that the local government is willing to dedicate Seplat Energy’s 2027 statutory tenement rate, instead of using it for general revenue, to finance the project. The proposed fire station is expected to cost more than ₦350 million.
According to the chairman, the move demonstrates the council’s commitment to investing in projects that deliver lasting benefits to residents.
Pepple also noted that Bonny has continued to enjoy a peaceful environment due to its strong security framework, which has helped attract investment to the area.
“The Bonny Local Government Council, under my watch, believes that the 2027 tenement revenue payable by Seplat Energy should be deployed to a developmental project that will have a direct impact on our people. We have identified the construction of a Fire Station in Finima Community as one of such critical interventions,” he said.
The council chairman explained that while the recently inaugurated Bonny Fire Station has strengthened emergency services across the island, growing industrial activities in the Finima area have increased the need for an additional facility.
He said the proposed fire station would enable faster responses to fire emergencies, reduce damage to property, and enhance the protection of residents, businesses, and key infrastructure.

In her response, Seplat Energy’s General Manager, Government Relations, Hadiza Garbati, praised the chairman’s commitment to community development and assured him that the proposal would be presented to the company’s leadership.
“As a company, we look forward to supporting and working with your administration. I will convey your requests to the management and leadership of Seplat Energy for their consideration,” Garbati said.
