Dangote Cement Plc unveiled its plans to expand its fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions, improve transport efficiency and promote environmentally sustainable operations across its African markets.
The company said it will acquire an additional 1,500 CNG-powered trucks under its green logistics strategy, a move aimed at lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing reliance on diesel-powered vehicles.
According to Dangote Cement, the initiative is part of its broader sustainability agenda, which focuses on environmental protection, energy efficiency, responsible corporate governance, community development and long-term value creation across the 10 African countries where it operates.
The company also announced that its environmental performance has received global recognition, with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) upgrading its climate and water management rating to “B” in acknowledgment of its sustainability efforts.
Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement, Arvind Pathak, said sustainability has become a core component of the company’s growth strategy, guiding its investments and operational decisions.
He explained that the expansion of the CNG truck fleet reflects the company’s commitment to cleaner energy, improved operational efficiency and innovative logistics solutions as it continues to grow its presence across Africa.
Pathak noted that while cement production remains essential for infrastructure development on the continent, the company is equally focused on reducing emissions, conserving natural resources and creating lasting value for host communities.
He added that Dangote Cement aims to contribute to Africa’s transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy while delivering sustainable returns to shareholders.

Beyond its environmental initiatives, the company said it is strengthening corporate governance and promoting diversity at board level, with women accounting for 28 per cent of its Board membership and directors representing seven different nationalities.
Dangote Cement added that its environmental, social and governance (ESG) programmes are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of climate action, responsible industrialisation, inclusive economic growth and community development.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Africa’s industrialisation while positioning itself among the world’s leading sustainable cement manufacturers.
