According to NUAS, quite a number of youth men from various communities within Andoni Local Government Area have been murdered within the past two months, with yet another reported in Ikuru Town on Thursday morning. The students noted that the murder is indicative of increasing insecurity in the community.
It was further pointed out that the unrelenting violence in the community had forced everyone into sorrowful mood, especially because youths of great promise in the community continue to lose their lives.
The group therefore pleaded with the Rivers State Government and the Commissioner of Police to urgently send specialists to protect the lives and properties of the people in the affected communities of Andoni.
Furthermore, there was a plea to conduct an intensive investigation into the killings and ensure that the culprits are identified and arrested as stipulated by the laws of the land.
In addition, NUAS called for more rigorous intelligence gathering from the law enforcement agents with a view to detecting and forestalling future attacks.
The victims’ families were assured of the assistance of the organization in terms of compensation.
To the youths of Andoni, the students union advised them to remain vigilant, respectful of the laws of the land and mindful of their security. They were told not to allow any act of violence on their parts and to avoid using them for the perpetration of such crimes.
The organization therefore condoled with the affected families and vowed to fight for justice until this case is resolved.
