The Obio/Akpor Local Government Council has visited the Bank of Industry (BOI), Port Harcourt, to explore partnership opportunities aimed at supporting local businesses, empowering youths and women, and stimulating economic growth.

The delegation, comprising the Vice Chairman, Secretary, Chief of Staff and Head of Legal Services, said the visit aligned with the ARISE Agenda of the Council Chairman, Hon. Dr Gift Worlu.

The proposed collaboration seeks to improve access to financing, promote local production and create sustainable economic opportunities for residents.

The Council emphasised the need for local governments to move beyond revenue generation by developing initiatives that strengthen local economies and deliver lasting benefits to their communities.

Representatives of the BOI reportedly welcomed the delegation, noting that, to their knowledge, it was the first time a local government had approached the bank specifically to explore partnerships for developmental initiatives.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing their commitment to collaborations that would improve the economic fortunes of Obio/Akpor and create opportunities for young entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.
