NDDC Advances Regional Development, Supports Bayelsa Deputy Governor’s Burial

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to regional development while also supporting Bayelsa State during a period of mourning, reflecting its dual role in infrastructure delivery and stakeholder engagement across the Niger Delta.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended the NDDC and its Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, for supporting the state in the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The burial ceremony was held at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Sagbama Local Government Area. Governor Diri said the Commission’s involvement contributed to a dignified and successful farewell, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity and partnership with the state government.

Dr Ogbuku, who led an NDDC delegation to the burial alongside the Bayelsa State representative on the Commission’s board, Senator Dimaro Denyanbofa, paid tribute to the late deputy governor’s service. He noted Ewhrudjakpo’s contributions to public service, particularly his role in infrastructure development as Commissioner for Works and as a Senator representing Bayelsa West.

In a parallel show of its development mandate, the NDDC has continued to deliver critical infrastructure in the region. In Rivers State, the Commission recently commissioned a 9.4-kilometre road network and a 1,500-seater Royal Hall in Ogu, Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area. The projects were inaugurated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, who praised their quality and impact on local communities.

Dr Ogbuku said the projects align with the Federal Government’s development agenda and urged residents to protect the facilities to ensure sustainability, while community leaders described them as transformative interventions.
