Rivers United remain unbeaten in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, trailing league leaders Rangers International by one point after Matchday Nine.
The Port Harcourt club have collected 16 points from eight matches, recording four wins and four draws to sit second in the standings. Rangers lead with 17 points from the same number of games.
Rivers United have scored 13 goals and conceded just twice, giving them a goal difference of +11 and underlining their defensive solidity during the opening weeks of the campaign.
Sporting Lagos occupy third position with 15 points from nine matches, while Plateau United, Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars and Doma United are level on 14 points, highlighting the tight contest among the teams chasing the leaders.
Barau FC sit eighth with 13 points from eight matches, while Ikorodu City, Bendel Insurance and Niger Tornadoes have 12 points each.
Katsina United are also on 12 points, while Kwara United, Warri Wolves and Shooting Stars occupy 13th, 14th and 15th positions respectively, with 11 points apiece.
Abia Warriors sit 16th with 10 points, just above the relegation zone. Kun Khalifat FC occupy 17th position with nine points, while Enyimba and Ranchers Bees have eight points each in 18th and 19th place.
Inter Lagos remain bottom of the table with two points from nine matches. Their position has been further weakened by a deduction of three points and three goals imposed by the league authorities.
With the season still in its early stages, the battle for the title, continental qualification and survival is expected to intensify as clubs seek greater consistency in the coming rounds.
For Rivers United, extending their unbeaten run and maintaining their defensive record could be important in their pursuit of Rangers at the top of the table.
