The Rivers State Government has taken a significant step towards empowering adolescents and young people by launching an Innovation Hub Center in Port Harcourt. The announcement was made on the Rivers State Ministry of Health’s official Facebook page today.
The center, inaugurated by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, aims to equip young people with entrepreneurial skills, promote economic growth, and contribute to the state’s socio-economic development.
The Innovation Hub, situated at Fimie-Ama Community in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including ICT and robotics rooms, app development and media studios, beauty and vocational training spaces, and wellness and counseling services. Dr. Oreh urged young people to take advantage of the hub to acquire skills, make informed life choices, and contribute to the state’s socio-economic development.
“This hub is a timely initiative that will provide our young people with the relevant skills and opportunities needed to thrive in today’s economy,” Dr. Oreh said. “I encourage all young people to take advantage of this center and make informed life choices that will positively impact their lives and the state as a whole.”

The center is a result of a partnership between the Rivers State Government, the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), with support from Project Hope. Dr. Charles Mensah, IHVN’s Chief Operating Officer, said the hub will provide young people with relevant skills and opportunities for growth.
“Our goal is to ensure that young people have access to the skills and resources needed to succeed in today’s economy,” Dr. Mensah said. CDC’s Country Director, Dr. Meghna Desai, noted that the hub will equip young people with critical entrepreneurial and technical skills to reduce vulnerability and promote economic independence.
“This initiative is a testament to the Rivers State Government’s commitment to empowering young people and promoting economic growth,” Dr. Desai said. The Innovation Hub is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of young people in Rivers State, providing them with the skills and resources needed to succeed in today’s economy.
