Following the assassination attack on the traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, King Mene Baridam in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers state, the Rivers State Police Command announced the commencement of full-scale investigation.
The incident occurred on Sunday at about 5:30pm, when His Royal Majesty, King Baridam, the Paramount Ruler of Bangha Community, was attacked by suspected gunmen while returning from a meeting in Okwale Community.
According to information made available to journalists, the monarch reported at the police station that his vehicle came under attack along Tekar Sogho Road, leading to the East–West Road in Khana LGA.

Furthermore, the Force spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko on Tuesday said the assailants, who reportedly emerged from nearby bushes, opened fire on his black Prado Jeep, shattering the windscreen and damaging other parts of the vehicle.
During the attack, King Baridam sustained a gunshot injury to his thigh and was subsequently rushed for medical attention. He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.
Following the incident, police patrol teams were immediately deployed to the area to comb the surroundings and track down the perpetrators. The Police Command said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Rivers State Police Command has assured residents that it is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property and that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Members of the public have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
