The Bayelsa State Government has renewed its commitment to expanding quality healthcare access for vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities, as the State’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, received members of the National Assembly’s House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services in Yenagoa.
This was contained in a document shared by the Media Assistant to the state Commissioner for Health, Doubara Fafi, on Friday.
The Committee, led by Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji (MHR), was in the state to review the progress and impact of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), a national framework designed to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and reduce barriers to affordable medical services across Nigeria.

Prof. Brisibe said the state government is prioritising equitable healthcare for all Bayelsans, noting that the BHCPF has become a vital instrument for improving maternal and child health, immunization coverage, and disease prevention in rural areas.
“We’ll ensure the fund’s efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness as it will help refine our programs, improve health care access and delivery, and contribute to Nigeria’s broader health care development goals,” Prof. Brisibe stated.
He also assured that the Ministry of Health would continue to collaborate with federal authorities and partners to build a more resilient primary healthcare system capable of responding to emerging health challenges.
Committee Chairman Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji commended the state’s efforts, noting that Bayelsa’s implementation of the BHCPF reflects the shared national goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He said the oversight visit was aimed at ensuring that resources allocated to the program are producing measurable health outcomes.
The Committee, which included Hon. Dr. Mitema Obodo, Member representing Bayelsa East, also visited several primary healthcare centers to assess their performance and challenges in service delivery.
The visit reinforced Bayelsa’s ongoing efforts to build a stronger, people-centered health system that places primary healthcare at the heart of its development agenda
