The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that 10 people lost their lives and 10 others sustained injuries in two separate fatal accidents along the Ozalla/Four-Corner axis of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, described the incidents as tragic and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
He noted that the first accident occurred around in the morning when a Howo truck, belonging to Visco Investment Global and loaded with cement, attempted to overtake another truck. In the process, it collided with a Toyota Corolla.
Two other vehicles, a Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini-bus driving one-way were also caught in the crash.
The impact was devastating. The truck head and the Toyota Corolla caught fire, killing all five occupants of the car instantly.
A passenger in the mini-bus also died, while several others were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Later in the afternoon, another accident occurred on the same road. This time, a Sino truck, also carrying cement and reportedly driving against traffic from Garriki to Nenwe, rammed into a tricycle.
Four passengers of the tricycle were critically injured and taken to hospital, but all were later confirmed dead.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, expressed deep sorrow over the repeated loss of lives and directed the State Motor Traffic Department to investigate both crashes thoroughly.
He urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during the high-risk Ember Months, stressing that “no journey is worth a life.”
Authorities are warning drivers to obey traffic rules, avoid reckless driving, and prioritise safety over speed to prevent further tragedies on Nigerian roads.
