Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, has revealed that she broke down in tears after her son left Portugal’s national team camp, describing the incident as a shock.
Dolores spoke publicly about the episode for the first time, expressing sadness over how the situation unfolded.
Ronaldo reportedly left the camp after remaining on the bench for the entirety of Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway in the UEFA Nations League.
The 41-year-old forward was subsequently reported to have cited a “breach of trust” between himself and head coach Jorge Jesus as the reason for his departure.
Speaking to Portuguese publication TV 7 Dias, Dolores said she was hurt by the circumstances surrounding her son’s exit but remained hopeful that the situation would improve.
“I feel sad; it’s normal. It was a shock, my son could have left through the main door and instead he left through the small door, but it’s okay, God will take care of it,” she said.
“I cried a little. It’s good too, to let go. We have to turn this around.”
Her comments come amid reports of tension surrounding Ronaldo’s role in the Portugal squad following the match against Norway.
The circumstances of his departure have drawn attention to his relationship with the national team’s coaching staff, although further details about the reported dispute have not been established in the statements provided.
Ronaldo, one of Portugal’s most recognisable football figures, remains a central focus of discussion whenever questions arise over his international future.
