Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have emerged as the three states with the highest number of registered voters ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during a world press conference and national stakeholders’ meeting, where he provided an update on the national voters’ register.
Amupitan said the register had risen to about 110 million voters, with Lagos maintaining the highest figure at 7,488,633, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.

Katsina ranked fourth with 3,876,051 registered voters, while Rivers followed with 3,736,434. Oyo recorded 3,588,111, Delta 3,525,988, Benue 3,057,225, Ogun 3,037,981, and Bauchi 3,012,547.
The figures come as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections. The commission is expected to begin nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) on Friday, October 9.
INEC said its three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise produced more than 10.6 million new applicants, after which it completed the public display of the preliminary register and the final Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) clean-up.
The commission has urged newly registered voters to collect their PVCs and verify that their details are correctly captured ahead of the polls.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
INEC has continued to call for greater voter participation and public confidence in the electoral process as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
