The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, received a formal request from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approval of a revised 2025 Appropriation Bill.
The letter, read during plenary presided over by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, seeks a revised recurrent expenditure of ₦510,098,436,320 and capital expenditure of ₦669,130,382,399.
Governor Oborevwori explained that the review is necessary to accommodate additional capital projects across various communities to promote balanced development and enhance the living standards of Deltans.
The revised figures also make provisions for the payment of accumulated pension arrears, increased government contributions to the Delta State Health Insurance Scheme, higher debt servicing obligations, and the remittance of 10 percent of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue to local government councils.
The House received the request through a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Emmanuel Nwaobi, and seconded by Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, representing Ika North-East Constituency. The revised bill has been slated for second reading at the next sitting.
In other business, the House unanimously adopted the report of the Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Hon. Matthew Omonade, which dismissed a petition against the premature retirement of Dr. Richard Amakre from the Delta State Hospital Management Board for lack of merit.
The House also deferred consideration of the report on the Delta State Landlord and Tenant Bill, 2025, to July 21, when it will sit as Committee of the Whole. The report was presented by Hon. Bridget Anyafulu.
