Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), based in Yenagoa, has donated educational materials to Bayelsa State Special School Vocational Skill Acquisition Training Workshop Centre for Children with Special Needs, Opolo, Yenagoa.
The donation was made to aid the academic and vocational development of the learners. The group visited the school on Thursday, July 10, 2026. USOSA delegates comprised the State Team Lead, Mr Ondotimi Sunny Frank, Assistant Team Lead, Dr Pauline Ebiye Sawyer, and the Secretary, Dr Akwesa Adonis Abiori.
They were received by the Principal of the institution, Mrs Ebiere Custom, who expressed gratitude for the gesture and commitment of the association towards the children with special needs.
During the visit, goodwill messages from the State Team Lead and Assistant Team Lead were delivered as a reminder of their commitment to advocating for inclusive education, encouraging learning disabled learners, and contributing positively to society.

The executives also engaged with the deaf and visually impaired students through interpreters, getting firsthand knowledge of the learning environment of the students amidst their resilience, determination, and outstanding accomplishments.
In terms of the donation made by the organization, there was education and learning materials consisting of two packets of Braille papers for visually impaired students, one manual typewriter, one copy of The Joy of Signing for students with hearing impairment, one carton of 156 exercise notebooks, and two packets of 100 pens each.
Speaking on behalf of the school, Mr. Murphy who is a teacher with visual impairment gave a very sincere thank-you speech. He was very grateful to the association for the kind donations and the motivation they offered as he described the donations as very helpful to the educational journey of children with special needs.
The visit came to an end with some group photos of the students, the teachers, and the members of the USOSAns Resident in Yenagoa Executive Council.
The union also appealed to individuals, corporate organizations, NGOs, and even other alumni unions to help the school in their own unique ways by making donations of educational materials, vocational equipment, and other items that would boost education for the benefit of the special-needs children.
