The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State, Aboiyaa Bob-Fubara, has assured the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) of his administration’s unwavering support for the upcoming update and expansion of the State Social Register.
Hon. Bob-Fubara gave the assurance when the Head of the Operations Coordinating Unit of the programme, Mr. Henry Claudius, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Akuku-Toru Council Secretariat on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to brief the council leadership on the planned exercise.
The council chairman emphasised that his administration is committed to ensuring that no eligible household, particularly those in remote and hard-to-reach riverine communities, is excluded from the exercise.
To ensure seamless implementation, Hon. Bob-Fubara announced that the council would sponsor the training of additional community personnel to boost the existing workforce and expand coverage across the area’s numerous riverine and hinterland communities.
He said the council would fully bear the cost of the training and provide necessary logistics to guarantee the success of the programme.
“We are committed to partnering with NASSCO to capture more vulnerable families in our communities,” Bob-Fubara stated. “The social register remains a critical tool for identifying beneficiaries of various government intervention programmes.”

He noted that the register has become an essential instrument for implementing social intervention initiatives supported by the Federal Government, Rivers State Government, and international development partners, including the World Bank.
Earlier, Mr. Henry Claudius explained that the visit was to create awareness about the forthcoming exercise and solicit the cooperation of the local government authorities.
Claudius said the update and expansion of the State Social Register aims to properly identify and document vulnerable populations across communities in Akuku-Toru LGA, ensuring that households meeting the vulnerability criteria are captured in the database for various social intervention schemes.
He described the register as a reliable database for planning and executing poverty reduction programmes, humanitarian interventions, and other social safety net initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of disadvantaged citizens.
Claudius appealed to community leaders, stakeholders, and residents to cooperate with field enumerators and provide accurate information during the registration process.
The exercise is being implemented under the RIV-CARES Programme, Results Area Four, DLI 4.1 and 4.2, targeting vulnerable households across all communities in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
