Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out pursuing a political career despite his growing involvement in political activities in Osun State.
The singer spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists at his uncle’s country home in Ede, where he joined celebrations following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election.
Asked whether he had any plans to venture into politics in the future, Davido, who serves as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, said he had no political ambition.
“No, I don’t have any future political ambition,” he said.
Instead, the singer said his priority was contributing to the development of Osun State, particularly by creating opportunities for young people through entertainment, sports and recreational initiatives.
Davido disclosed plans to stage a major concert in the state after the governor’s inauguration in December. He said young artistes from Osun would be allowed to perform alongside him.
“I definitely want to see Osun youth perform alongside me,” he said, adding that a competition could be organised to select the artistes who would feature at the concert.
The singer also revealed plans to establish a recreational centre in Osun State, saying discussions were already ongoing to secure land for the project.
According to Davido, the facility would provide young people with opportunities to develop their talents and keep them engaged, with the potential to attract thousands of youths every month.
“That kind of situation can attract thousands of youth every month, taking them off the streets. That’s one of my plans definitely,” he said.
Davido also praised Osun youths for their participation in the electoral process, saying their actions had restored hope and confidence in Nigeria’s democracy and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He urged stakeholders to focus on rehabilitating young people involved in electoral violence, while calling for forgiveness and unity among residents.
The singer stressed that peace should remain the priority, urging people to put the events surrounding the election behind them and work together for the development of the state.
