President Bola Tinubu has successfully won the presidential candidate selection process for the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
He got a convincing 10,999,162 votes during the party’s primary election which took place nationwide.
This was stated on Sunday at the International Conference Center, Abuja, by the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee Chairman, Anyim Pius Anyim.
After the announcement of Tinubu’s victory, the APC Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, handed over the APC flag and certificate to him.
It should be noted that the APC Presidential primary was conducted across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
A total number of 12,643,316 registered APC members turned out, out of which 11,069,746 were accredited and cast their votes.
Stanley Osifo, his only contestant, lagged far behind with 16,503 votes.
Anyim stated that the exercise adhered to INEC rules and regulations, party constitution, and national electoral laws.
He continued by stating that the vote counting was done in 774 local governments and 8,809 wards country-wide, with the state governors serving as collation officers for the party nationally in Abuja.
Moreover, Anyim stated that agents from all sides could observe and dispute the results during the whole process.
In his acceptance speech, Tinubu congratulated himself as well as other party leaders and governors, telling his fellow members to talk about what the administration had done in the past three years. In particular, he talked about his accomplishments as follows:
He announced that nearly ₦282 billion had been given out via the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), benefiting over 1.5 million students.
Tinubu mentioned that almost 2.5 million pre-paid meters had been given out under the Presidential Metering Initiative, including the ₦4 trillion debt clearance program for GENCOs and GASCOs, along with a 6,000MW peak generation initiative.
He also noted that the elimination of fuel subsidies and alteration in the management of the foreign exchange market had helped stabilize the naira and build up external reserves amid economic challenges globally.
In addition, he stated that fiscal and tax policies had been able to aid revenue generation for the country.
As far as future policies are concerned, he outlined plans for large infrastructure construction like permanent concrete highways from the coast to Sokoto-Badagry in case of a second tenure.
As far as security was concerned, he assured continued effort at restoring stability to all regions of the nation.
He even reached out to his political adversaries and asked for their cooperation for building the nation.
He stated those who have differences of political opinions are nevertheless partners in the great undertaking of nation-building.
