The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, has approved a reduction in the duration of its part-time National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes from three years to two years.
The institution disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Anthony Ogbe, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
According to the statement, the decision was reached during the Polytechnic’s Academic Board meeting held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The new two-year structure will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session and is part of the institution’s efforts to improve academic delivery and expand access to technical education.
Under the revised arrangement, part-time students will attend intensive lectures from Monday to Saturday.

The Polytechnic said the new timetable had been designed to provide students with adequate instructional contact hours while enabling them to complete their programmes within the reduced two-year period.
The institution explained that the curriculum and lecture timetable had been redesigned to make the part-time programme more efficient while maintaining the required academic rigour.
It added that the development would provide a more flexible learning framework for students who combine their education with work and other responsibilities.
The Polytechnic said the move further demonstrated its commitment to strengthening its part-time programmes and improving the quality and efficiency of technical education offered to students.
