Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has commended what he described as growing unity and internal cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, saying it remained central to the party’s strength.
He made the remarks on Saturday shortly after the party’s House of Representatives primary held at his Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. This was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.
The exercise ended with the unanimous endorsement of the incumbent member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency, Oforji Oboku, who was supported by 2,565 party members, including the governor.
Diri noted that the APC in Bayelsa had continued to operate as a united structure, adding that the party had functioned “as one family” across the state.
He further stated that similar unity had been recorded across the remaining federal constituencies in Bayelsa.
The governor explained that party leaders had deliberately worked to avoid internal divisions and strengthen their chances ahead of the next general elections.
He also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise in his ward, saying it reflected what he described as a broader pattern of orderliness across the state.
Diri described Oboku’s endorsement as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership and representation.
He added that there had been no contest in the process, as Oboku emerged as the sole aspirant for the ticket in the constituency.
The APC Returning Officer for the ward, Fortune Panebi, announced that out of 3,411 registered members, 2,565 took part in the exercise and unanimously endorsed Oboku.
He subsequently declared Oboku as the party’s candidate for the federal constituency.
