Dangote Petroleum Refinery has approved the recall of engineers it sacked and redeployed to other business units during its dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
In a statement on Thursday 30 April 2026, the refinery said management granted the engineers a conditional pardon after a thorough review and several appeals from stakeholders.
The company described the move as an opportunity for a second chance while stressing that discipline remains important.
A memo signed by Group Vice President, Oil & Gas, Devakumar Edwin, directed all affected engineers to attend a meeting before they resume duties at the refinery. The recall includes those who rejected earlier redeployment offers.
The refinery explained that it took earlier actions to protect operations and maintain standards. However, it now chooses to show fairness and belief in second chances.
Management warned that any future misconduct will attract immediate sanctions. It expects the returning engineers to show full dedication and professionalism.
The engineers were sacked in October 2025. The company claimed they sabotaged operations, while the workers said they faced victimisation for joining PENGASSAN.
The union protested the sackings, which led to a strike that disrupted oil and gas production and affected power supply nationwide.
The Federal Government later intervened, and the refinery redeployed the engineers to various locations, including coal mines in Benue and construction sites in Borno and Ebonyi states, as well as agricultural projects in other northern states.
Many of the affected workers, including some graduate trainees, refused the redeployment.
The recall signals that normalcy has returned at the Dangote Refinery as it continues to strengthen its operations in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
