Diri Urges Leaders to Embrace Humility, Service at Funeral of Ex-IGP Solomon Arase

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, has called on leaders across the country to embrace humility, selfless service, and compassion in their conduct, stressing that everyone would ultimately be remembered for their deeds.

Governor Diri made the call on Friday during the funeral mass of the late retired Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Solomon Arase, held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin City, Edo State.

While paying tribute to the late IGP,  Governor Diri, speaking in his capacity as Chairman of the South South Governors Forum, describing him as a distinguished officer who embodied humility, diligence, and love for humanity throughout his service to Nigeria.

According to the governor, Arase’s rise through the ranks to become Inspector General of Police (IGP) was a testament to his dedication and professionalism.

“We have lost a great officer in Arase, who we thought could have rendered even greater service not only to Edo State but to the South South region and indeed to Nigeria after his retirement as IGP,” Diri said.

He noted that the passing of the former IGP was a reminder of the fleeting nature of life, urging public servants to lead with integrity and commitment.

“We all grieve, but in due time, regardless of the position we hold, we will all lie in state like our brother, father, and friend here today. “For me, moments like these are humbling. We should all be humbled and continue to serve our country and states to the best of our abilities. We will be remembered for what we have done,” he added.

Dr. Solomon Arase, who served as Inspector General of Police from 2015 to 2016 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, passed away in August at the age of 69.
