The decision to disband roadblocks and task forces operating on various roads in the country, has been described as timely, necessary and a bold step towards restoring public confidence in government.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Chairman of the Rivers State branch of Petrochemical and Fertilizer Transport Association PEFTA, Alhaji Shehu Usman, said its members had for long, suffered harassment and extortions from the taskforces.
”For too long our people had endured harassment, extortion and intimidation in the hands of those who are meant to enforce order. a viral video that surfaced recently was not just disturbing but it’s a wake up call that revealed a pattern of abuse that could no longer be ignored. I commend the government for taking this decisive action on disbanding these road blocks”

While commending government for the decisive action, Alhaji Usman however, said that in future, government must ensure that those to be appointed into any enforcement team are properly profiled to weed out dubious characters.
Alhaji Usman, who urged residents of Rivers State to document and report any abuse, said concerted effort is required to build a safer and just society where the roads are free of congestion and corruption.
