The Nigerian Communication Commission said the reactivation of various unlinked and unregistered NIN-SIM lines across the state during the weekend was for a limited period of time.

This was contained in a signed document released today by Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs, stating that NCC has ordered SIM operators to reactivate suspended SIM lines due to the challenges the blockages have caused.

The Hope Newspaper reported that some telecom subscribers have lamented over their blocked SIM lines as they made their way to the various network provider outlets in some part of Nigeria.

To this end, recall that in December 2020, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FG), with the aim of enhancing national security and ensuring the accuracy of the national SIM ownership database,  instructed network providers to ensure that their users comply with the compulsory linkage of NIN with SIM.

A full network barring of subscribers with four or fewer SIMs that had unverified NIN details was reviewed on April 15, 2024.

Meanwhile, on July 31, 2024, a deadline was set to give consumers more time to ensure their submitted NIN details are properly verified.

Although the NCC said that after some various extensions were given, some users have yet to comply.

According to Muoka, the NIN-SIM linkage policy will provide a critical infrastructure that assures access to the benefits of a robust digital economy for the citizenry.

“Reactivated consumers are to note that this is for a limited period to allow them to properly link their NIN to their SIM,” the statement read.

Therefore, for proper linkage of NIN to SIM, NCC has encouraged users to make use of this opportunity as soon as possible to maintain access to their lines.
