Residents, private car owners and taxi drivers were yesterday startled as some louts who disguised as revenue agents stormed the Mile 3 area of Port Harcourt, demanding to collect parking fees from motorists.
This incident which also caused pandemonium on Thursday morning forced motorists to alert men of the mile 3 police station.
The motorists also called on the Rivers State Government to urgently investigate the activities of some individuals who are posing as Agents of Internal Revenue Board to collect two hundred naira as parking permit along Abuja Bypass-Goat-Seller road within Mile three Diobu Port Harcourt.
Our correspondent who visited the area was told by the rattled and angry motorists that a fight erupted between the suspected fake revenue agents and some of the drivers.
It was gathered that the said Agents with branded t-shirts of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Board stormed the area and demanded a two-hundred-naira parking permit from each driver.
Some of the drivers who spoke to our correspondent said their refusal to pay the money followed the ongoing announcement by the Revenue board to members of the public not to patronize fake agents of the board with branded uniform who go about to issue tickets in the name of the board.
Some of the taxi drivers said they woke up this morning to see some men who posed as agents of the board, collecting money with tickets from anyone who parked their vehicles along the road and deflating tyres of those who refused to pay.
When our correspondent approached the leader of the agent who identified himself as ANAYOR, he directed us to contact his boss who also directed that we get clarification about their job from the Rivers State Internal Revenue Board.
