Degema LGA Boss talks tough, promises safer waterways for seafarers

Tony Philmoore, the Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, has reiterated the council’s resolve to maintain peace and security in the local government area.

Speaking shortly after the resumption of office and a brief handover ceremony from his vice, Mrs Ebinyo Thankgod Inume, who held brief in the one month he was out of office, the council boss warned parents and guardians to rein-in on their children and wards as the council is determined to secure the local government area despite the challenges.

He said his government would collaborate with security agencies to ensure that the waterways were safe for seafarers and businesses, adding that the council would hold community heads responsible if they failed to assist security agents in flushing out criminals in their domain.

Philmoore also warned communities from hiding criminals and hoarding intelligence about outlaws and nefarious activities in their territories, adding that the local government must be free from all sorts of criminality especially cultism, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and piracy.

He also called on youth bodies to cleanse themselves from undesirable elements and trouble makers, pointing out that only then would investors have the confidence to risk their resources to bring businesses that would create jobs in the area and alleviate poverty.

The council boss reiterated the State Governor’s earlier statement of taking development to communities that guaranteed and had track records of peace and security.
