The Rivers State House of Assembly has threatened to issue arrest warrants against the Vice-Chancellor of PAMO University of Medical Sciences and two senior state finance officials over their failure to appear before an investigative committee.
The officials are the Rivers State Accountant General and Commissioner for Finance.
The House had set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the release and use of government funds allocated to PAMO University from 2017 to date.
The committee met on Wednesday to begin its investigation after inviting the Vice Chancellor, Accountant General, Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Education and other relevant government officials and agencies.
However, the Vice Chancellor, Accountant General and Commissioner for Finance did not attend the sitting.

Reacting to their absence, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, expressed displeasure and ordered the three officials to appear before the committee in person on Thursday, September 24.
Maol warned that failure to honour the fresh summons would lead the committee to consider using its constitutional powers to compel their attendance, including the issuance of arrest warrants.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, attended the committee’s sitting and responded to questions concerning the investigation.
The Assembly’s inquiry is focused on the disbursement and utilisation of funds provided by the Rivers State Government to PAMO University over the period under review.
