The Rivers State Police command says it has commenced an investigation into the incident involving the alleged confinement of a 16-year-old domestic worker in a toilet for several months.
The teen, whose name was given simply as Amarachi, was reported to have been rescued by neighbours after spending months locked in a toilet at her employers’ home, in Abuloma, Rivers State.
Amarachi, a native of Ebonyi State, who works as domestic staff for 34-year-old Mr Eze Nduibisi and his 31-year-old wife, Blessing Simeon, was allegedly locked up in the toilet as punishment for an offence yet to be disclosed.
Also, she was said to have been fed once every day before she was eventually rescued on Monday, September 14, 2026, after she raised alarm.
In reaction to the incident on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, revealed that “the command is aware of the incident involving a 16-year-old girl, Joy, at Abuloma.

“On 13th September 2026, at about 1600hrs, the Abuloma Police Division received information that the girl had allegedly been locked inside a bathroom by Eze Nduibisi, aged 34, and his wife, Blessing Simeon, aged 31, reportedly on account of her displaying signs of mental disorder.
“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives promptly intervened and rescued the girl. Eze Nduibisi and his wife were subsequently arrested.
“The victim’s mother was contacted through her uncle, one Abbel Ude, aged 69, from Umuche, Ebonyi State. The family thereafter came to take the victim home for further care and medical attention.”
The PPRO further assured that “the matter is currently under investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate action.”
