Redeemer’s Health Village Hospital, in collaboration with Nisa Premier Hospital, has completed West Africa’s first tele-robotic surgery, a right radical nephrectomy, marking a significant milestone in the region’s surgical care landscape.
The procedure represents a major step forward in expanding access to complex surgical care and highlights the growing role of technology-driven healthcare in Nigeria.
Tele-robotic surgery allows a surgeon to remotely control robotic surgical instruments, potentially widening access to advanced procedures for patients who might otherwise need to travel long distances for specialised care.

The hospital credited the achievement to the support of its founders, Pastor E.A. Adeboye and Pastor (Mrs) Folu Adeboye, whose commitment to advancing healthcare, it said, helped drive the project forward.
It also acknowledged the contributions of Robomed Global, Nisa Premier Hospital, its medical and operations teams, technology partners, and other collaborators whose expertise made the procedure possible.
The successful operation is being described by the institutions involved as the beginning of a new chapter in surgical care in the region, with expectations that the technology could pave the way for wider adoption of robotic-assisted procedures across Nigeria and West Africa.
