Oyigbo LGA Chair calls for investigations into the killing of Chijioke Azuonwu

The authority of Oyigbo Local Government Area has called on the Rivers State Police Command to commerce investigation into the killing of one CHIJIOKE AZUONWU during the governorship election in the area.

The Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area GERALD OFORJI while paying a condolence visit to the Azuonwu family in Oyigbo described the act as barbaric and wicked.

Chijioke Azuonwu was allegedly killed on March 9 during the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State by men dressed in police uniforms.

GERALD OFORJI also assured that the council will assist the family during the burial rites of CHIJIOKE AZUONWU.

He said that political killings are alien to the culture of Oyigbo people, stating that the people of the area do not play do or die politics.

In his comment, the Director General of PDP Campaign Council in Rivers State, DESMOND AKAWOR while condemning the killing said Oyigbo people will not tolerate such actions in the area.

He lamented that the crimes were committed by Oyigbo sons who want to grab power by all means.

He, however, called on the Rivers State Police Command to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the crime.

Desmond Akawor said the crime is a state crime and should be treated with utmost seriousness so as to serve as a lesson for others.

Speaking further, the House of Assembly Candidate for Oyigbo Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Prof NNANNA NWANKPA while condemning the killing said the people of Oyigbo will not take the killing likely.
