The Amanyanabo-elect of Opobo Kingdom, His Majesty Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja (Jeki VI), has urged women in the kingdom to play a leading role in efforts to revive and preserve the Ibani language.
Jaja VI stressed the importance of preserving the Ibani language, customs, culture and traditions of the Opobo Kingdom, describing women as key vehicles through which the language could be passed on to children and future generations.
The Amanyanabo-elect also urged younger people to remain connected to their identity, history, culture and heritage.
He spoke when the Vice Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon Gladys Daniel LeggJack, led a delegation of women from Kalaibiama Opobo on a courtesy visit to the king-elect ahead of his forthcoming coronation.
Jaja VI recalled the support and presence of the Kalaibiama women during the burial of his elder brother and predecessor, His Royal Majesty Dandison Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, as well as their participation during and after the burial.
He expressed appreciation for their solidarity, describing the gesture as a demonstration of love and support that he would continue to cherish.
The Amanyanabo-elect also thanked the women for their prayers, goodwill and congratulations, while commending the Vice Chairman for bringing the delegation together to honour him ahead of his coronation.
Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon Daniel Jack, said the visit was to express the women’s love, respect, loyalty, unity and solidarity with the king-elect.
She formally congratulated Jaja VI and wished him a peaceful and historic coronation.
The delegation also prayed for God to grant the incoming monarch wisdom, strength, sound health, guidance and grace for a peaceful, prosperous and enduring reign.
