The Rivers State Government has assured a fire victim from Bille Community, Miss Amos Joy, of full support as she receives treatment at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, RSUTH, Port Harcourt.
The State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, gave the assurance on Monday, September 14, 2026, when she visited the victim at the hospital.
Professor Odu said the government acted promptly after receiving information about Joy’s condition and commended the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Nwachukwu, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Professor Chizindu Alikor, and the medical team for their swift response.
She said Joy sustained extensive burns and required urgent treatment to prevent complications, including infection and septicaemia.

The Deputy Governor assured that the state government would take responsibility for the cost of her treatment throughout her stay in the hospital. She also provided financial assistance to support her recovery.
Professor Odu expressed optimism over the victim’s condition, noting that the medical team had successfully stabilised her.
The Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Professor Chizindu Alikor, said Joy was receiving comprehensive treatment free of charge and was responding to care.
He thanked the state government for the visit, saying it would boost the morale of medical personnel.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr Vincent Nwachukwu, said the ministry evacuated Joy to RSUTH after learning about the incident online and commended the hospital staff for their efforts.
