Some physically challenged persons under the aegis of Great Minds Foundation of People with Deformities in Niger Delta have shut down three entrance gates of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital over what they termed lack of empowerment.

The physically challenged protesters who stormed the Port Harcourt head office of NLNG passed the night there and resumed their agitations the next day, thereby preventing both travellers and workers from neither accessing the premises nor coming out.

The President of the group, Azikiwe Femi, told our correspondent that the management of NLNG has refused to address them, adding that they will tarry at the company’s gates until their demands are meant.

Femi said, “the management of NLNG had an agreement with us in 2016 that they will empower us with skills and possibly provided us jobs.

“Since then they have not fulfilled their promises to us. Each time we approach them, they keep given excuses upon excuses and we have come to take our destinies in our hands”.

On his part, the Secretary of the group, W. Festus said the amount agreed with NLNG for the empowerment is over 200 million naira, insisting that NLNG must empower them.

Some of them said they have not eaten since Thursday they came from their various states to picket NLNG, hence vetting their anger on civilians attempting to access the premises of NLNG for various reasons.
