Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, unity and sustainable development, assuring residents that the state will not return to political crisis and instability.
Fubara made the declaration on Monday while inaugurating the Omademe Internal Roads in Ikwerre Local Government Area, the sixth project commissioned under the current phase of his administration’s project inauguration exercise.
The governor urged political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to support efforts to sustain the prevailing peace in the state, stressing that meaningful development could only thrive in a stable environment.
He said Rivers State had experienced difficult moments in the past but noted that his administration had moved beyond those challenges and remained focused on building a peaceful, united and prosperous state.
Fubara also called on residents to remain united and work collectively in the interest of Rivers State and Nigeria.
According to him, the success of an administration should be measured by the value it adds to the lives of the people rather than the number of years it spends in office.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to execute impactful projects until the end of its tenure.
The governor described the Omademe Internal Roads project as another milestone in the state’s infrastructure renewal programme.
The project comprises 10 internal roads covering approximately 8.6 kilometres, with road widths ranging from six to 7.3 metres. It also includes about 8.7 kilometres of drainage channels and three kilometres of earthfall discharge drains aimed at improving accessibility, controlling flooding and stimulating economic activities.
Fubara said every administration had a responsibility to build on the achievements of its predecessors, adding that his government was determined to leave behind enduring infrastructure that would improve the quality of life of Rivers people.
He assured residents of Omademe that requests for the extension of the road network to neighbouring communities in Etche Local Government Area, improved electricity supply and rehabilitation of adjoining roads had been noted and would receive government attention.
On the verification of local government workers, Fubara said the exercise was designed to sanitise the payroll system by eliminating ghost workers and ensuring that salaries were paid to genuine employees.
He stressed that while his administration supported employment, recruitment into the local government service must follow due process and should not be politicised.
Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Wobodo Charles, described the Omademe Internal Roads as “roads of peace and healing,” saying the project would ease the transportation of agricultural produce, boost commercial activities and open up the area for further development.
He also commended the governor for the local government payroll verification exercise, saying it had eliminated irregularities and would create opportunities for qualified workers.
Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, disclosed that the project was awarded to Cedar Construction Limited on February 24, 2025, while construction commenced in November 2025.
Nwofor said the roads were completed in line with approved standards and specifications and would improve mobility, strengthen connectivity and boost socio-economic activities in Omademe and neighbouring communities.
Managing Director of Cedar Construction Limited, Dr. Bobby Elechi, thanked Governor Fubara for entrusting the project to an indigenous company.
Elechi also commended the traditional rulers, chiefs, elders, youths, women and OSPAC of Omademe, as well as the Ministry of Works, for their cooperation and support throughout the execution of the project.
