PHED calls for truce.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution company, has made an appeal to community opinion leaders to stem waves of protests against it in Rivers State.

Reacting to the blocking of it’s substation at Nzimiro by some youths from Ogbunabali over alleged poor power supply, PHED spokesman, John Onyi called for understanding as a way to resolving disagreements between communities and the company.

He noted that the substation belongs to the transmission company of Nigeria and not PHED as they thought.

He said the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution company, PHED cannot distribute more than they get.

“The area in question that was shut yesterday doesn’t belong to PHED company. We want to say that it’s becoming one protest too many. As at the slightest issue of loss of supply, communities would just besiege our office. It’s becoming a social menace” he said.

“The opinion leaders within these communities should please wade in, talk to their children, wards, as the case maybe, to stop all these incessant protests.

“Because it’s not an intentional act not to give everybody supply, but based on what is visiting from the grid”.

It will be recalled that protesting youths of Ogbunabali had on Tuesday, mounted canopies and cooking items in front of the Substation at Nzimiro and demanded for regular power supply to their homes.
